{"id":743,"date":"2021-06-24T11:00:27","date_gmt":"2021-06-24T09:00:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/citizenstakeover.eu\/?p=743"},"modified":"2021-06-30T09:48:59","modified_gmt":"2021-06-30T07:48:59","slug":"better-stronger-and-more-mobilised-than-ever-we-take-on-the-cofoe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citizenstakeover.eu\/nl\/blog\/better-stronger-and-more-mobilised-than-ever-we-take-on-the-cofoe\/","title":{"rendered":"First Plenary of the CoFoE: we need better inclusivity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Our voice is already raised, time to listen\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cMake your voice heard\u201d is the official slogan of this Conference, as it states on its <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/futureu.europa.eu\/?locale=en\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">participative online platform<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Photo by\u00a0Tha\u00efs Breton.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><b>More inclusion of under-represented communities<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CTOE published its <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/citizenstakeover.eu\/blog\/open-letter-to-executive-board-civil-society-organisations-call-for-conference-to-include-marginalised-communities\/?fbclid=IwAR0pZ-rvuvBTwD1GEyVa_lV8zEOrCV3iWazwYHi2qJtwruDFoOJ67AY5zJg\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Open Letter sent to the Executive Board of the Conference<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> calling for more conclusion, which was co-signed by more than 62 organisations in just a few days. This keen interest of so many organisations joining together to send out a clear message on the necessity for more inclusion shows the eagerness of CSOs for a better representation of citizens, especially those from under-represented communities.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe Conference has so far not made adequate provisions to include marginalised and underrepresented communities. The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/futureu.europa.eu\/pages\/panels\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">European Citizens\u2019 Panels<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are the main innovation of the Conference, and a key instrument to reach underrepresented people. Unfortunately, no quotas have been set to ensure the representation of underrepresented groups such as racialised people, LGBTQI+ people, people with disabilities, etc. Additionally, EU residents without EU passports and non-binary people seem to be categorically excluded from the panels. Photo by\u00a0Tha\u00efs Breton.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Including EU citizens &amp; residents who are actually representative of its population\u2019s diversity is the first and necessary step towards a public dialogue that only resonates with the majority but also helps (re-)connect the population with its EU institutions. However this can be achieved only by providing a safe space for all those voices to be heard loud and clear.
