On the week of 9th of May, Europe Day, at Citizens Take Over Europe we are organising a series of online events in cooperation with all the members of the coalition, taking place across Europe, online, and in different languages. Starting on the 4th of May, our message with these events is one and is clear: we want a conference on the future of Europe that truly puts citizens at the centre and pays attention to our demands.

Citizen Participation in Democratic Europe: What Next for the EU?

Book Launch Event for the book ‘Citizen Participation in Democratic Europe: What Next for the EU?’ Edited by James Organ and Alberto Alemanno Speakers include Prof. Ulrike Liebert, Laura Sullivan (Executive director of WeMove Europe), and Prof. Andreas Gross.

Citizens Take Over Europe x Conference on the Future of Europe 1.0

A series of events to develop and discuss thematic and concrete policy proposals for the future of Europe.we will discuss democracy reform proposals with:

– Roslyn Fuller, Solonian Democracy Institute
– Alberto Alemanno, HEC Paris
– Bruno Kaufmann, Democracy International

Each expert will take up one of three pillars of EU democracy (representative, participative, direct democracy) and lead a Zoom breakout room on their respective topic. The final agreed proposals will be submitted by Citizens Take Over Europe on the official online platform of the Conference.

European Citizens Assemblies and the Future of Europe

The various members of Citizens Take Over Europe will share their ideas and highlight the benefits shown by citizens’ participation in the democratic process. An event to design the Europe that we want: a Europe that cares and is taken care of!

The Rise of Insurgent Europeanism

Ahead of the start of the Conference on the Future of Europe, this event will launch The Rise of Insurgent Europeanism, an LSE IDEAS report in cooperation with European Alternatives discussing new visions of Europe emerging in civil society and what they mean for democracy and the European Union.

♦️SATURDAY, MAY 8, 18 CET
Delivery Workers in the Platform Economy

European Alternatives and Another Europe Is Possible gather together migrant workers, workers’ collectives, trade unions and NGOs fighting for the rights of migrant workers from inside and outside the EU. Together we not only want to articulate problems and demands, but also formulate policy recommendations to strengthen the rights of migrant workers. Join our online event series to draft our open letter to the EU Commission.
