Citizens Take Over Europe: Time to put citizens in the driving seat

2021 May 3rd

On the week of 9th of May, Europe Day, the Citizens Take Over Europe is organising a series of online events in cooperation with its 56 members of the coalition, taking place across Europe, online, and in different languages.

Starting on May 4th, our message with these events is one and is clear: we want a conference on the future of Europe that truly puts citizens at the centre and pays attention to our demands.

After the successful launch of the CTOE coalition last year on Europe day (more than 1100 participants live, 30 events and 9 hours of live streaming), the 2021 edition will focus on demands for a genuinely inclusive process. This comes at a crucial time, as EU Institutions are planning to launch the official Conference on the Future of Europe on May 9th.

For Daniela Vancic, one of the event coordinators “Europe Week is an opportunity for us to reactivate European citizenship and to think about the Europe we want to live in! With the Conference on the Future of Europe around the corner, the time is now to critically think about where the EU can modernize and improve to become more democratic, sustainable, and equitable for all.“

Interested citizens can choose among a variety of events. The Europe Week’s lineup features many partners and a wide range of issues, so that anyone can have a say on the Future of Europe they want.
