FOR A CITIZENS-CENTERED CONFERENCE ON THE FUTURE OF EUROPE
Join Citizens Take Over Europe for our next event on July 1st from 11:00 to 20:00 CET at the occasion of the beginning of the German EU presidency. While the institutions are still remaining silent about the Conference on the Future of Europe, the Citizens Take Over Europe coalition advocates that citizens and residents of Europe should be at the center of the debate.
What’s on the 1st of July
The Citizens Take Over Europe coalition invites citizens and civil society organisations to discuss the political urgency for the future of Europe, starting from the Recovery Fund and the reforms that the European Union needs to make through a European Citizens Assembly. This will be a moment also to discuss how we can design this assembly together and make it happen.
The session will be broadcasted online on Zoom. All sessions will be additionally livestreamed on Citizens Take Over Europe Facebook page and on our partners channels.

ABOUT THE CITIZENS TAKE OVER EUROPE COALITION
Citizens Take Over Europe emerged in the spring 2020 amidst the recent Covid-19 pandemia, in which we recognized how much the lack of European democracy is deeply affecting our lives. We are a group of civil society organizations, citizens and residents from across Europe, joined in a common effort to promote a forward-looking and citizens-centered European democracy. While our national leaders struggle to find common solutions for the major challenges of our time, from ensuring strong, well-funded and inclusive public services to protecting our planet or guaranteeing fundamental rights across Europe, we take our own responsibility to put citizens and residents at the centre of the conversation about the future of Europe. Not only that: we believe it is fundamental for people in Europe to organize across borders and design the Europe that we want: a Europe that cares and is taken care of.
On May 9th, Europe Day, the European Union was planning on launching its Conference on the Future of Europe, another institutional process in which citizens would have little to say about their future. Instead, together, we have reclaimed a political, transnational space by means of an online conference to discuss problems Europeans are facing and co-develop solutions form a political, social and personal perspective. Now, we are developing and will advocate for key criteria for a successful Conference on the Future of Europe, that puts citizens at the heart of the process.
We demand a fundamental rethinking on how our European democracy works by empowering citizens by tried and tested participatory tools to influence decision making, as well as through innovative deliberative methodologies.

TESTIMONIES OF CITIZENS
The Covid19 crisis gives us the opportunity to make a new start: a world where there are no market forces in healthcare, and where the economy is supportive of the environment and the well-being of citizens, not an end in itself.
As the threat of Covid-19 spreads across Europe and the world, so do stress and anxiety, which is why we must stay united and help each other during these uncertain and unpredictable times. We must act together to fight fear.
The crisis has put a great emphasis on trusting science, thus, we should start trusting science about global warming too. Today there is a great need to be united not only to fight the virus, but to fight its consequences too
I feel confident that this horror of the pandemia will even more unite all the Europeans and develop more solidarity.
